In a pulsating finish under a looming storm at Arnos Vale Stadium, Mississauga Skyhawks clinched a two‑wicket win over Vancouver Guardians with just two balls to spare. The decisive moment came when Unmukt Chand smashed a boundary off the penultimate delivery, sealing a 170‑6 target and sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Match Summary
After winning the toss, Vancouver Guardians elected to bowl, hoping to exploit the humid, 31.5 °C conditions that promised a bit of swing. However, the decision back‑fired as Mississauga Skyhawks posted a competitive 170‑6 in 19.4 overs, edging out the Guardians by a single run. Vancouver’s innings stalled at 169‑4 in 20 overs, falling just short despite a solid start from George Munsey, who contributed 37 off 28 balls. The rain‑laden sky added drama, with an 86 % chance of showers throughout the evening, but play continued uninterrupted.
Key Performances
Unmukt Chand was the star for the Skyhawks, anchoring the chase with a fluent 64 off 52 balls, mixing aggressive boundaries with smart singles. His innings kept the required run‑rate in check and provided the momentum needed in the final overs.
For Vancouver Guardians, George Munsey offered a brisk start, but the lack of support at the crease limited his impact. On the bowling front, Zahid Shirzad delivered an economical spell of 1/22 in 2 overs, while Rafiullah claimed 2/25 in 2 overs, both providing early breakthroughs.
Mississauga’s bowling unit was led by Bradley James Currie, who bowled a tidy spell of 2/25 in 4 overs, and Rana Salman, who took 1/32 in 3.4 overs. Their disciplined lines kept the Guardians from accelerating in the death overs.
Turning Points
The match swung dramatically after the 15th over of the chase when Chand partnered with the lower order to steady the innings. A crucial 30‑run partnership for the sixth wicket shifted the momentum, especially as the rain clouds gathered, increasing pressure on both sides.
Another pivotal moment arrived when Vancouver needed 12 runs off the final two overs. A misfield on the 18th over gave the Skyhawks a vital extra run, and Chand’s boundary on the 19th over brought the equation down to six runs off the final ball. The final delivery saw Chand loft a six over long‑on, sealing the win and sending the Skyhawks’ bench into celebration.
Series Implications
This win levels the head‑to‑head record at 1‑1 in the Global T20 Canada 2026 series, intensifying the competition as both teams vie for a semifinal berth. The Skyhawks, buoyed by Chand’s match‑winning knock, now sit higher on the points table and will look to maintain momentum in the upcoming fixtures.
For Vancouver Guardians, the narrow loss highlights the need for deeper batting depth and tighter death‑over strategies. Their bowlers performed admirably, but the inability to chase a modest total under pressure could prove costly in the tightly contested group.
